Some leaked renders of the Moto Z 2 shows us a similiar device, but with a headphone jack.

Last year, saw the rise of the flagship killer genre of smartphones, and the fall of smartphones with headphone jacks. Motorola/Lenovo launched two devices that fit both of these categories, the Moto Z/Z Force duo. A pair of nice looking devices that employed the latest specs and a nifty type of modularity, the Moto Z and Z Force ushered in a new era for the Lenovo. A few budget devices came out form them since then, but now, thanks to OnLeakes, we’re getting some images of their next flagship, and we have some similarities and some surprises.

Right off the bat, we notice that Lenovo opted to use a different material for the back of the device. The original Z used glass, but the render shows what looks to be a textured material. This is most likely to help with grip, as glass and metal phones are notoriously slippery. The metallic trim extends to somewhat to the back, where it rounds off and meets the textured material. The camera bump is this the same odd circular protrusion that was present in last year’s Moto Z. This, coupled with the prongs on the bottom let us know that their modularity is here to stay. We see the volume button/power button combo on the right side of the device. There’s no speaker on the back or on the bottom of the phone, which means that they’re keeping their front firing speaker from last year. Moving onto the bottom, we see the USB type-C charging port and a headphone jack. For those unfamiliar with the original Moto Z, it didn’t include a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which caused a bit of an uproar among the tech community. It’s refreshing to see this technology returning in their new flagship.
