An on going trend in smartphone technology is companies releasing a handset, and then a “mini” version of that handset. ZTE has been a recent culprit, and Samsung has done the same thing in the past. A recent report from TechnoBuffalo states that LG is potentially going to be launching a little sibling to its flagship phone.
The G6, though it may not feel like it, is all of 5.7 inches. A comfortable device because of its microscopic bezels, but the mini version may be 5.4 inches. It’s not a huge difference, but given how small those bezels are, each tenth of an inch means that much more. What’s fortunate is the fact that the mini device is rumored to have the G6’s 18:9 screen aspect. Another trait that it will probably share is the great screen to body ratio; it’s rumored to have around 78%. With any mini version of a phone, there are always compromises in the specs department. The specs aren’t stated in the report, but it’s expected to be a less powerful device than the flagship. Maybe, instead of the Snapdragon 821, it’d probably have a Snapdragon 652, the RAM may be bumped down to 3 or 2, the screen cut down to FHD or FHD+. Either way, we just hope that the storage doesn’t get any lower! With the cuts in specs, the price, which is actually a good price at $650, will definitely be lower.
An exciting device to look forward to if you want the G6, but don’t have the doe. There’s one thing to note, however. The original report, though promising, was actually from last year. This mini device is possibly an idea that LG had, but eventually ditched. It’s hard to tell at this point, so only time will tell. What do you guys think? Would you buy a G6 mini?
