Google assistant on smartphones has been a Pixel exclusive as of now, and the Huawei Mate 9 is the only other device that is set to launch with Amazon’s Alexa . However, that’s all about to change.
The leak comes from Business Korea who has said that in a stride to strengthen cooperation with global companies like Amazon or Google, and improve their failing smartphone business, LG plans to bring these companies’ assistants to the G6. I like the idea of Google Assistant losing it’s exclusivity, or having Amazon’s powerful AI assistant with me wherever I go, but is having both on one device really necessary, and will the inclusion of two artificially intelligent assistants really be enough to make the G6 sell?
There’s more though. Business Korea has mentioned that LG is set to build two Google Android Wear watches, which we heard earlier this week from other sources. This makes me wonder if LG’s partnership with Google goes deeper than just being an Android OEM. It looks like Google wants to make Assistant a unified experience across Android devices, and that means bringing it to our wrists, and to other Android smartphones.
Whatever the case may be, we’re excited to see the LG G6 make its debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.
