Blackberry CEO confirms one last phone with a slide out keyboard

Blackberry is in an odd place nowadays. Last year, they sorta shook the world by bringing us its first Android handset, the Priv, with the slide out keyboard. Then this year, they released two phones in the span of a few months, the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60, both borrowing their design from the Alcatel 4. Then they went on to state that they are out of the hardware business. So what do they do? They confirm another device, this one with a physical keyboard. The company’s been on rough waters for a long time, and none of there Android powered smartphones seem to be that spark they so desperately needed, so it makes sense that the company is jumping out of manufacturing hardware, and started working primarily on software. But before you start mourning the company’s passing, it seems that they have one more handset up their sleeve.

Back in September, we got word that Blackberry may be working on bringing us one more phone before bowing out, but now, we have confirmation. John Chen, the CEO of Blackberry, has stated in an interview with Bloomberg, “We have one keyboard phone we promised people.” and went on to say “It’s coming.” What we’re expecting is a successor to the Priv. This device will apparently be upon us soon. If so, then we can either expect it before the end of this year, or early next year. There are no details about the actual phone out just yet, but this bit of news has sparked a bit of interest back in Blackberry, and boy do they need it.

The Priv was an interesting phone, though it was a mixed bag in a few departments. One point of attention for the phone was its physical keyboard. A lot of people wondered why it was implemented, but no one really complained. This time around, do you think that it could help round in buyers? Let me know in the comments below.
